The Jesuit missions in the region since 1580 made Huamanga an important art center from which our two statuettes probably come from. Finely executed, they are presented on later marble bases.

St Antony the Great. 14-15th C Statue in carved, gilded and polychrome wood. He is also named Anthony the Hermit and considered the father of monasticism. Dressed in a tunic under a hooded coat, he holds, in his rigth hand, the T-shaped stick which is his attribute. Barefeet symbolize his desire for deprivation.
