Saint Lucy of Syracuse. 18th C carved and polychrome wooden statue. Born into a patrician family in Sicily, she was a virgin and a martyr. Represented as a richly dressed young girl, she holds a dish on which her eyes are placed. The legend of Lucy from which this attribute is derived refers to ligth.
