Statue of saint carved in oak wood (probably Saint Helena ). Rhine work, circa 1600.
Statue of saint carved in oak wood. She wears a crown on her veil and holds in her hands the Book and a nail. In all probability, it is Saint Helena, empress, mother of Constantine, who found the instruments of the Passion of Christ symbolised here by the nail. The open Book of Scripture and the sobriety of her clothes display her profession of faith following her conversion to Christianism.
Rhine work, circa 1600.
